People living in a newly annexed part of Eau Claire will soon have their own ward, called Ward 41.
Anyone living in the subdivision near the intersection of County Line Road and County Highway F on Eau Claire's Northwest side will soon be part of Ward 41.
The houses are closer to the city of Eau Claire than they are to the rest of the Town of Wheaton, so the land owner asked to have them added as part of the city.
They've already been annexed but because the land is in Chippewa County, they couldn't be added to an existing ward, so their own ward was created and the city council approved it Tuesday night.
City Clerk Donna Austad says this area is now under ordinance of Eau Claire.
"They will now be represented on the Eau Claire City Council, not the Town Board of Wheaton. That's the only major change with representation," Austad says.
This will mean a change in polling location for the fifty people living in the area.
"Right now the proposal is to have them vote at the same location as the other residents of Chippewa County vote at, and that is the site on North Lane," Austad says.
She says only 14 people are currently registered to vote in that ward... And that the clerk's office will be letting them know their new polling location in time for september's primary elections.
