Property values may be down in urban areas, but according to one group the value of rural land is going up.

The United States Department of Agriculture says in the last year, farm land real estate values have been skyrocketing. According to the U.S.D.A., farm land and buildings on farm land have gone up nationwide by about 8.8%. That means one acre of pasture land is worth almost $2,400.

Ellen Semke is a farmer in Coon Valley and says her property may be worth more but so is everything else.

"Buying our seed, our fertilizer and chemicals and everything, those costs are also greatly increased – which, just because you’re making more money on one end doesn't mean the outcome is going to be better."

Semke says one reason her property is worth so much is because she and her husband grow corn and beans and the price of those have gone up.
