A major development in Eau Claire County's plans to build a new jail in the downtown area.

County Board Chair, Gregg Moore, has requested that the full board vote to pull its re-zoning petition before it reaches the City Council. That vote will happen at Tuesday night's meeting.

Moore is also requesting the board create a special committee to evaluate other potential jail site. He says that committee will have to report back with its decision no later than January 14th.

Moore says he's looking for a solution that'll be good for the county, the city and the community.

Just this month, opponents of the new jail gave the City of Eau Claire a protest petition with nearly 5,000 signatures. Moore says that petition also influenced his decision, since it could also make enough City Council members vote against the re-zoning request.

If that happened, Moore says the county would have to wait one year before submitting another re-zoning request.
