Three men are in jail after investigators say they charged a vulnerable elderly man $600 for just 20 minutes of yard work.
One of the men from Bill's Tree Service and Landscaping says his co-worker routinely overcharges people and that most of their customers are elderly.
Chad Jantzen, William Marty and Edward Podraza, from Minnesota, all face a felony charge of attempted theft and false representation. Jantzen and Marty also face a felony charge of forgery.
It happened on Rist Avenue on Eau Claire's south side. According to the criminal complaint, a woman called police because she thought the men were taking advantage of her elderly neighbor. The woman said earlier in August the men charged her neighbor $500 to haul away 18 bags of yard waste and some branches--which the men later admitted to officers.
Podraza also told police they charged the man "way too much for the little work they did" and that the elderly man didn't know what was going on.
We couldn't find a listing or any information for Bill's Tree Service and Landscaping. But, we did learn that Jantzen does have an unsatisfactory record with the Better Business Bureau for a tree service under his initials.
We talked to the neighbor who called the police today she says it's important for everyone in a neighborhood to look out for each other.
