BREAKING NEWS: The Eau Claire City Park Superintendent tells WEAU 13 News that Barack Obama will hold his Sunday campaign appearance at Rod and Gun Park in Eau Claire. The event is by invitation only.

Park Superintendent Phil Johnson says people who received the invite will be bussed into the park. Johnson also says there will be a catered barbecue lunch.

Obama's campaign staff tell us the gates will open at 10 a.m. and the event will start around noon. The campaign staff did not know if a newly-named running mate will be with the Senator.

WEAU 13 News will carry the event live on 13.2, our digital channel, as to avoid interfering with the Olympics. That channel can be found at channel 247 for Charter Digital Cable customers. We will also stream the event live right here on weau.com. Our crews will cover all angles of the appearance and will bring you complete coverage on WEAU 13 News after the Olympics Sunday night.

Original Story:

Sen. Barack Obama will campaign in Wisconsin for the first time in two months this weekend.

His campaign says the Illinois senator will stop in the western city of Eau Claire on Sunday.

The event is part of a tour of battleground states leading up to next week's Democratic National Convention.

It says Obama is expected to talk about how he will offer relief to struggling middle-class families.

The stop will be Obama's second in Wisconsin for the general election. His last stop was in Kaukauna in June.

Obama started the campaign with a healthy lead over Republican Sen. John McCain in Wisconsin, but the race seems to be tightening.

Why not, people fell for the lies of Bush. He lied to get us into Iraq, he lied about his military record, he lied about pretty much anything he could get away with. Now, how about being specific about these "lies" you are refering to? Also, don't hide behind "anonymous" when you make accusations like that, give your name.

I invite Mr. Obama and all his supporters to come hear the best preacher in town, but more importantly the truth of the Gospel of Jesus Christ at 1505 Cameron St. (ECGC) today at 10:30 a.m. Our constitution was and is based upon Bible principles. Let's return to them. Separation of Church & State meant (tho' it's not in the constitution) for the State to stay out of church affairs. But most definitely should the State be influenced by the church...more specifically by God's Word.

In the future, could the staff at WEAU make sure they get this information before getting people's hopes up about getting to see Mr. Obama? I was about to re-arrange my plans for Sunday, but I guess I don't have to now.

What is wrong with this country when every one puts there "hopes" in for this man, "change" yeh they are getting it with him, I believe he is the first one to openly say he was not running for president because he was not ready or experienced enough (just a few short weeks before "changing" his mind) But hey why not waist the money that could save our houses or our hungry to pay up the nose for him to spread more lies!!! I just don't get why people are falling for all these lies!

Sorry, but I'm all Obama'd out. He's on the cover of Time magazine for the 7th time, and just about everything else you watch or pick up.The media's obsession with getting him into office is nauseating.

Please make sure to note that the event is by invitation only.

i have heard the rumor that this event will be invite only, and i very much hope this is not true. however, WEAU if you could, investigate this rumor for the public to know and so people are not disappointed when they try to show up and are turned away.

I don't plan to see him, but I sure am going to vote for him. The Republicans have done so much harm to our country, we have to get somebody else -- actually, ANYBODY ELSE -- into the Oval Office.

mmm, tough choice. Twiddle my thumbs or go see a Kennedy puppet! I think David Byrne of the Talking Heads said it best, "same as it ever was, same as it ever was"
