An area sheriff's department is looking for new ways to make extra money, which means some people could get a bill with their handcuffs.

Jackson County Sheriff Duane Waldera says the county is looking at charging $50 if deputies serve a warrant and arrest that person. He says the fee will be for people who don't show up for court, not for criminal arrest warrants. Jackson County is also looking at increasing civil process fees.

Waldera says if the fees are approved, the move could make the county $75,000 next year.

Government has it too easy. When I run into financial troubles, I can't just speak an edict and demand more money from my "customers". I simply have to SPEND LESS. I don't know where "Ben" gets this idea that we "let criminal get off so easy." Anyone who has had a run-in with the law knows that the law has many various ways of ruining, or otherwise controlling your life from then on. If police were not wasting so much money going after people who are not causing harm, they would have plenty of resources to focus on the REAL dangerous criminals...

Do it! People that are complaining are the ones that will end up having to pay it! If you don't get in trouble and/or show up for court you don't have to worry about it!

C.B. Cut down on patrols to save money? Great idea! I'm sure you will be the first to complain when you start experiencing troubles. I can hear you already..."Where are the police? Why do I pay taxes if the police are never around".

I believe the E.C. Police aready do this. At least they did back in 1995. In fact I was picked in Burnsville, MN. at my work place for a warrant that was issued in error(I had payed the fine, not once, but twice previously). Once in E.C. I was informed of the error and told that even though it was thier mistake, I'd have to pay the $50 warrant fee(By a Red Faced Rich White himself). To top it all off, I had to find my own way back to Eagan where I lived. If they want to save money, they should try to avoid mistakes like that. I'm not sure how much it costs to send 2 plain clothed detectives from E.C. to Burnsville and back, but I bet it's more than $50. Not to mention, if I was the sue happy type, this wouldn't be the first time you'd be reading about this.

I think it is a great idea, we are charged for calling 911 in a medical emergency, to be transported to a hospital, from volunteers. I think it should be more then $50.00 though!

$50.00??? That seems foolish. That doesn't even cover the officer's pay for going out to get the person. I think they should have to pay much more than that if the officer has to go arrest them for not showing up to court. Why do we always let the criminals get off so easy. $50.00... They mine as well stay home and wait for the police to come get them so they can save on gas money to get to court!

What a stupid Idea. Maybe they should either, (1)raise the cost of the fine for the inital infraction, or (2) cut down on patrols.
