This season, some local teams are ready to hit the gridiron, even if the turf is a little different.

"Obviously playing the games here at Central High School adds a little bit of excitement to the season they've been watching us get the field ready and their starting to feel the energy,” says Central High School Athletic Director Joe Beran.

The Red Raiders usually play all home games at UWL, but with the stadium long gone, games will have to be played at a field behind the high school with few seats and a lack of parking space.

"I think we're in pretty good shape people know they're coming here and they're not going to have the room and the capacity we have at the University so they're going to have to make arrangements, “says Beran.

But Central High School isn't the only school having to call an audible when it comes to where games are played. The UWL Eagles have also moved to a new home field, in Winona.

"It's different instead of us just walking across the street and holding a Football game our whole operation has to go up there, “says Beran.

While some teams have had to find a new home for the season, Beran says nothing can change the game itself.

"We just hope everyone sticks with us and understands this is a year of transition and a year from now we'll all be smiling when we open the new facility,” says UWL Athletic Director Joe Baker.

"I think people will still come out, Friday night Football it's a special place to be no matter who's playing or where you're where you're playing,” says Beran.

UWL’s new stadium is scheduled to be finished by next May.
