The woman accused of starving her newborn to death appeared in court Friday.

La Crosse County District Attorney Tim Gruenke says 20-year-old Indra Book pleaded not guilty in court Friday morning.

A judge rejected a motion by the defense to have first degree intentional homicide charges dropped.

Prosecutors say book gave birth last august but stopped breast-feeding the infant after two days.

They say she put the baby's body in a cooler and set it outside.

Her trial date has not yet been set.
