In Eau Claire County, a grant given to the Sheriff’s department will help deputies crack down on speeding and drunk driving far into the summer months.

The $15,000 grant, awarded by the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, will help pay overtime hours for officers so they can target traffic enforcement during the summer.

Officers say drunk driving is a problem all year, but it tends to be a bit more prevalent in the summer, and especially on holiday weekends.

According to the Department of Transportation, 94 people were hurt and 1 was killed in Eau Claire County last year due to alcohol related crashes.
