A fire on Eau Claire’s south side heavily damaged a home Monday night, but all three people inside escaped safely.

According to Town of Washington fire officials, Randy Brunette smelled smoke in the house around 10:30 p.m. Monday. But he was able to get his two children out of the second floor of the house before the fire spread.

The blaze started when an item accidentally left on the stove ignited, causing approximately $65,000 of damage.
