A 13-year-old Altoona boy is facing juvenile charges after he was accused of bringing a pellet gun to school and firing at students on the playground.

Police say the boy had a fight with other students at Altoona Middle School, hit another student with his skateboard, breaking the student's glasses and cutting his head.

The 13-year-old then left school and returned with the gun.

Police Chief Todd Chaney says one student was hit in the shoulder when the 13-year-old started firing at classmates.

Police are recommending charges of firing a dangerous weapon on school property, battery, disorderly conduct and criminal damage to property.

My child goes to school in Altoona. We moved to Altoona so she would have a good education. Now this happens. I didn't hear about this from the school, but from my sister in law that heard it on the news. I want to know what Altoona Schools are going to do about this and how they plan to protect these kids from this again. I think we all need to get together and get on the school to do something and makes plans with the kids on how to protect themseleves and how to be kind to one another. I don't want any children to be at risk while going to school nor should they be. I think Altoona has failed at this and is not protecting our children. I also would like to know what the parents are teaching this child that did this. Are they not involved with this child? He needs to know from right and wrong at the age of 13. I want answers and I think that everyone should want answers to this questions and has a right due to our children safety.

A kid in Wisconsin recently got EXPELLED from school for a Tshirt that referenced a political candidate as a terrorist supporter - what is wrong with Altoona. This kid should be expelled - maybe he meant to grab a real gun and Altoona just got LUCKY.

Please tell your kids the importance of being kind to others at school... stop the bullying because unfortunately kids can just go off the deep end when pushed enough. I think everyone needs to let our youth know how to respect and be kind to others at school. Our world has gotten so crazy!! I hope this young man gets the help he needs.

People really need to get on Atoona School, why? I heard this through the news and not through the school. My son heard this through friends and not the school. No one has addressed this incident to the students or offered counciling of any kind that I know of. This is such a trend in today's school systems it is not an issue to be swept under the rug and not addressed to concerning parents and worried kids. The scenario only needed to be slightly different folks..what if the kid had access to a .22 instead of a pellet gun? Altoona needs to address this issue to its parents every way they can now instead of waiting for the worst case scenario to happen.

What is going on. I have 2 neice's and 1 nephew that goes to school their. This makes me wonder what is going on in our schools. Who is looking after the kids? I know that my neices and nephew parents both work but they still make sure that the kids know right from wrong. If you have kids you need to make sure that they are taught right from wrong. This is WRONG!! If kids do this now what are they going to be when they go up. I sure hope that this does not happen again. I am hoping that all the other kids are safe in the school. This makes me wonder

WHERE WERE THE PARENTS OF THIS CHILD? IF HE IS ONLY A PART TIME STUDENT THERE MUST BE SOME REASON FOR IT. SO IS HE LEFT A HOME ALONE THE REST OF THE TIME. MY DAUGHTER GOES TO ALTOONA AND IT IS A SCAREY THOUGHT SO THINK THAT SOMETHING LIKE HAPPENED THERE. IT HARD TO BELIEVE THAT A 13 YEAR OLD WOULD EVEN THINK OF THIS. NICE JOB MOM AND DAD
