Doyle Creates Faith-based Office
Groups will help state fight poverty
|
|
Governor Jim Doyle has made a decision that has drawn furrowed brows from both sides of the political spectrum.
>
Doyle announced yesterday that he would create a faith-based office to fight poverty. The governor says faith-based groups can do a lot of things the state can't.
>
The new office will primarily focus on helping organizations receive information, assistance and referrals. The campaign of Republican challenger Mark Green says the governor is copying his ideas.
>
The co-founder of the group Freedom From Religion said she believes Doyle is trying to draw Republican support for November. A recent poll put Green ahead of Governor Doyle by one percentage point.
