The man convicted of severely abusing a little girl is headed to prison.

A judge sentenced Michael Stoner to nearly 7 ½ years in prison Thursday.

Stoner – who is a survivor of the I-35 W bridge collapse in Minneapolis – was convicted in July of severely abusing his fiancé’s young daughter.

Emmaline Manning, 3, was taken to a hospital in August of 2007 with a massive head injury and bruises in various stages of healing. Emma’s grandfather told the court she is blind and unable to eat, walk, talk or sit up on her own. Stoner claimed the girl was hurt after she fell down the stairs.

On Thursday, the judge described Stoner’s personality as “Dr. Jekyl and Mr. Hyde” – proclaiming him an angry, frustrated and dangerous young man.

“While we can fix bridges, we cannot unfortunately in this case fix a life that has been irreparably and permanently damaged,” said Judge Scott Needham.

“I know my son. He loves Emma. He loves Crystal. He changed his life when Crystal came into his life and he would not harm Emma or any other child,” said Stoner’s mother, Marie Stoner.

Stoner told the judge he failed in his responsibility to keep Emma safe.

His fiancé, and the girl’s mother – Crystal Manning – told the court Stoner is not a monster.

Good grief - what is wrong with the world today. The punishment should be way more than this. Eye for an eye. God bless Emma

I think the mother should be sitting right next to this guy in that prison cell. And to his mother. WAKE UP lady, your son is guilty.

a man does this to a child and the child's mother says he is not a monster? Apparently she has a severe lack of judgement and would put her child in harm's way again.

again more proof that children mean less as a human life in this society. If he had done that to another adult he'd have gotten life.... Again we send the message that children don't deserve to be protected from these monsters. Another failure of the justice system

This puke gets 7 1/2 years and this little girl has a lifetime of he@@ - wrong, just wrong - he should rot. I don't care if people close to him say he's "not a monster" tell that the the little girl.

71/2 YEARS ARE NOT NEAR ENOUGH YEARS OF PUNISHMENT. HE HAS SENTENCED A LITTLE GIRL TO A LIFETIME SENTENCE AND SHE DID NOTHING WRONG. HE DESERVES 80 YEARS

What is wrong with these women----she stays with him and defends him even after the horrible abuse he inflicted on her daughter. She deserved this monster---hopefully her daughter is out of the home and with some one that treats her the way she deserved to be. 7 1/2 was not justice!

I think this guy should be put to death. Honestly, when the bridge collapse happened, I seen his interview on tv and my heart went out to him and his fiance at the time talking about how they were on the way to have the little one to the hospital when the accident occured. After finding out he WAS the reason for the hospital visit I was enraged. He had the nerve to sit there on telivision pouring his heart out like some poor victim or something, and the whole time, HE was the reason any of them were there in the first place! I say fry his sorry but!
