Officers are looking for a man after a robbery attempt at a bank. Chippewa County Sheriff Jim Kowalczyk says a man tried to rob the Holcombe Bank on Highway 27 around 3:30 p.m. Friday. Holcombe is in Chippewa County northeast of Chippewa Falls.

Kowalczyk says the man is driving a bright red Chevy club cab pickup truck with loud exhaust pipes. Kowalczyk says the man led officers on a high speed chase through Chippewa County. He was last seen on County Highway E south of Highway Z. Sheriff Kowalczyk and the Civil Air Patrol were taking off around 4:30 p.m. to try to spot the truck from the air.

If you have any information about the robbery attempt or see the truck, you can call 911 or the Chippewa County Sheriff's Department at 726-7701. WEAU has a crew on the way to the scene and will have an update on WEAU 13 News at 6 and 10.

He most likely chose the Holcombe bank because he knew he'd be able to get away with it.

I'm think probably because of how rural it is. It is in Chippewa County's jurisdiction, and if they are driving from the southern part of the county, it's a quick get away. However, whether it is a rural or city area, it is still a pretty stupid idea.

I just have one question. If you are going to rob a bank, why the Holcombe bank? That's like a car thief stealing a Geo Metro.

"He was last seen on County Highway EE south of Highway Z" i really don't understand this comment. County hwy EE is on the east side of town and highway Z is on the west side of town.... just really wonder how they lost him......
