UW System's Growth Plans
UW campuses' growth plans hinge on more funding
|
|
University of Wisconsin campuses around the state are outlining plans to increase their enrollments, add professors and improve their research after years of budget cuts.
>
The plans are part of UW System President Kevin Reilly's growth agenda. They would add up to 7,700 more students to the UW System over the next six to eight years.
>
Reilly says the goal is to increase the number of Wisconsin adults with four-year degrees, which is currently below the national average. He says more degrees will mean higher incomes and a stronger Wisconsin economy.
>
The plans hinge on more funding for the UW System from the Legislature, but that prospect is uncertain because of the state's budget picture.
>
The growth plans are also drawing concerns from professors who wonder whether campuses will be able to maintain quality while adding more students.
