Investigators say Doug Sidie confessed to shooting Alisha Sidie in the face outside the home they shared with their two-year-old twin boys.
Monday night, Doug Sidie is in the Jackson County jail, held in isolation without bond. Earlier on Monday, a judge found there is probable cause to keep him behind bars.
Investigators say Alisha Sidie was killed just steps away from her own home. Court documents show her ex-husband confessed to detectives that he's the one who ended her life on Friday, November 7.
Investigators say after talking to a friend who Doug Sidie hunts with, they brought Sidie in for more questioning. Doug Sidie told them he and Alisha got into an argument in their garage and Alisha went outside.
Doug Sidie confessed that he got a handgun from the garage, hid it in the waistband of his pants, followed his ex-wife outside and confronted her. Investigators say Doug Sidie told them he shot Alisha one time in the front of her face or head.
It’s a very different story than the one the 39-year-old told WEAU 13 News on Monday.
"She came and brought the boys home. There was a short argument between us two and then she left on foot. For now, that's all I know," Doug Sidie told WEAU 13 News then.
For days, Doug Sidie and hundreds of volunteers searched the Hatfield area for any sign of the missing 27-year-old, mother of twin two-year-olds.
"How are you dealing with all of this?” we asked Doug Wednesday night inside his home. "A lot of praying," he answered.
On Saturday investigators, along with Doug Sidie, went to a wooded area off Waterbury Road, five miles from town. It’s where he told them he unloaded his wife's body out of the pick-up truck and hid it in the woods. With the help of a search dog, the chief deputy found Alisha's body and detectives booked Doug Sidie into jail.
The district attorney is still working on filing formal charges against Doug Sidie.
There is a history of violence between Doug and Alisha Sidie. In 2005, when the couple was engaged, Doug Sidie was charged with misdemeanor battery- domestic abuse and disorderly conduct- domestic abuse.
According to that criminal complaint, Alisha told investigators that Doug was drunk and she was driving him back to their home. That's when Alisha said Doug demanded his keys. She said she didn't want him to drive, so she threw the keys out the window.
When Alisha tried to get out of the car, she told officers Doug got angry and pushed her to the ground. When she got up, she said he again pushed her down and kicked her in the head, near her temple.
Alisha Sidie said she eventually got away, ran behind a fence and called 911. She also told investigators Doug had trouble handling alcohol in the past.
Those charges were eventually amended to a single charge of disorderly conduct. Court records show Alisha and Doug Sidie divorced in September of last year.
Monday Breaking News Update:
Court records show Doug Sidie admitted to shooting his ex-wife on the sidewalk outside of their home before he drove her body to a rural road and hid it.
The Jackson County Sheriff’s Department filed a probable cause statement with the Jackson County Clerk of Courts today. The statement says Doug Sidie told investigators he and Alisha Sidie, his ex-wife, had a verbal argument in their garage on Friday, November 7. Sidie told detectives she left the garage and he then got a handgun from the garage and hid it in the waistband of his pants. Sidie then says he confronted Alisha and shot her one time in the “front of her face or head” on the sidewalk outside their house.
Court documents also say he then told detectives he put her body in his pick-up truck and drove to the town of Komensky, where he tried to hide her body adjacent to Waterbury Road. Officers took Sidie to that area and he told them he took her body out of his truck and dragged her into a wooded area on the east side of Waterbury Road. A K-9 search team then found her body.
The document also says Doug Sidie voluntarily confessed to shooting and killing Alisha Sidie, the day before he reported her missing. Doug Sidie was arrested on Saturday, November 15, at 6:30 p.m.
A Jackson County judge did find there was probable cause Doug Sidie committed first degree intentional homicide in court today.
