The housing market is definitely a buyers market these days, so sellers are trying anything they can to get their homes sold.
"We're not too hopeful anymore so we'll probably have to rent it out if we don't sell it very soon," says Chris Urban.
She and her husband are trying the sell their four-bedroom home on Bellevue Avenue in Eau Claire, and they're hoping the holidays will help.
"After Thanksgiving I was driving home and I noticed everyone had put their lights up over the holiday. So I'm like, hey, maybe I could put up my 'for sale' sign with Christmas lights," says Urban.
Chris' dad crafted the sign for their front yard and it's been getting some attention.
"People slow down trying to see what it says.”
But even though people are driving by to get a peek, Chris says the $119,000 price tag hasn't had any bites.
"We haven't seen much of a difference," she says.
Chris says she loves the private backyard and the character of the six-decade-old house, but she says they want to be out of the city.
"It's time to move on," Urban says.
So she says, although she's antsy to get into her new home, she first has to get rid of a mortgage payment.
"We haven't been in a real hurry because we haven't sold this one yet," Urban says.
The Urban's say they've had to drop the price of their home a few times since it went on the market in July, and since the construction is nearly done on their new home, they're hoping these lights will help sell their current one quickly!
The Wisconsin Realtors Association says home sales in Eau Claire County have decreased by more than 30% compared to this time last year.
Chris says it only took her dad a few hours to build the sign they say will hopefully help sell their home.
