Prosecutors have charged an Eau Claire man after they say he tried to strangle or suffocate his roommate.
Prosecutors filed charges against 49-year-old John C. Pederson Sr., 2449 Jackson St., Apt 4, with a felony count of strangulation and suffocation and a misdemeanor count of disorderly conduct.
Court documents show a police officer went to the Jackson St. apartment on Tuesday. A woman living there told police she had told Pederson he would have to leave the apartment. The criminal complaint says she told officers Pederson then put her on the floor and covered her mouth and nose with his hand so she couldn’t breathe. Prosecutors say the woman was kicking her legs to try to get away because she thought Pederson was going to kill her. She then escaped and ran to a neighbor’s house to get help. Pederson was in Eau Claire Co. court on Tuesday morning. A future court date has not been set.
