Most of the investigations launched by a new state board charged with rooting out corruption among government officials and politicians are being kept secret.

The Government Accountability Board has launched 40 investigations and concluded 29 since forming in January. But the results of only seven of the 29 completed investigations are being made public.

Records provided to The Associated Press under the state open records law on Monday show six cases were settled and one was dismissed for not having any probable cause.

The board's ethics division administrator Jonathan Becker says the law prohibits details from the other 22 cases from being disclosed. He says he believes that is a weakness that should be changed.
