A man facing charges for killing his ex-wife was sentenced Friday (Feb. 20) for a drunk driving case where he left her on the side of the road.

A judge sentenced Doug Sidie to 95 days in jail, fined him $1219, and revoked his license for 2 years and three months.

The criminal complaint says Doug Sidie’s truck was facing the wrong way on Mission Road in the town of Brockway when a Jackson County deputy pulled up on April 21, 2008. Sidie drove off and left Alisha Sidie standing on the side of the road crying.

The deputy chased Doug Sidie and watched him weave all over the road in his pickup truck. When the deputy caught up to him, his speech was slurred, his eyes were red and glossy, and the deputy could smell alcohol on his breath.

The criminal complaint says Sidie told the deputy he had been arguing with Alisha and left her on the side of the road before driving off. The deputy found an open bottle of beer in the truck and Sidie told the deputy the beer wasn’t his. Sidie said they had been at the Sunset Tavern and had drunk “quite a bit.” Sidie also told the deputy he couldn’t take any field sobriety tests “because I’m drunk.” Sidie told the deputy just to arrest him because he had too much to drink. His blood alcohol level was .21 percent, which is almost three times the legal limit.

The criminal complaint shows Sidie has previous drunk driving convictions in Rock County in 1992 and Jackson County in 2004.

Sidie is in the Jackson County jail for Alisha Sidie’s death in November 2008. He faces 11 counts in that case, including first degree intentional homicide. Prosecutors say he shot Alisha in the face and hid her body in the woods in Jackson County last year.
