Eau Claire residents will be paying more for their water starting Sunday, October 1.

The City Council approved a water rate increase that will increase the average water bill by 7% quarterly. The city will use the money to cover increased costs and invest in its plant and water mains.

The council also approved an ordinance that'll require property owners to clean up graffiti if their home or business gets hit by vandals. Starting November 1, if the offenders get caught they'll have to pay to remove the damage. The city plans to look into "graffiti- busting" volunteer groups that La Crosse and Neenah have to help property owners remove or cover the damage.
