Principal Killed at Weston School This Morning

The Sauk County Sheriff's Department is holding a suspect right now after a shooting this morning at Weston school in Cazenovia, about 70 miles southeast of La Crosse.

“A student entered the building with a gun and all we know at this time is that we tried to get the student under control and shots went off and our principal was injured this morning,” the dean there says.

Investigators say the shooter had been disciplined yesterday for having tobacco in school. He was facing in school suspension.

Principal John Klang died at 3:30 Friday afternoon after coming out of surgery at a Madison Hospital. The sheriff's captain says the principal was shot 3 times.

No students were hurt in the shooting.

Police also say a student died in a car crash on his way to school this morning. Reports say the student lost control of his car.

He was airlifted to a Madison hospital after the crash, but did not survive.

Cazenovia is a town of about 300 people, about 70 miles from La Crosse.

University Hospital says John Klang died this afternooon following surgery to treat gunshot wounds to his chest and head.

District Attorney Patricia Barrett says Eric Hainstock is being charged with first-degree intentional homicide in adult court.

Barrett says the student apparently had plans involving the principal. She says he told a friend a couple days ago that the principal was not likely to "make it through homecoming."
>
The homecoming events and game at Weston High School scheduled this weekend have been canceled.
