An Eau Claire hospital will soon be using some new technology to help treat patients.

Sacred Heart Hospital is installing a dual source CT scanner. The scanner uses computer and x-rays to present cross-section slices of areas of the body. It takes images four times faster than a standard CT. Doctor Peter Hanson says patients will benefit from less radiation exposure, and will have decreased hospital stays. He says the scanner can help with the detection of cancer and for patients with heart conditions. It also has applications for trauma, orthopedics, and neurosciences.

Dr. Peter Hanson said, "It's a great thing to have in our community. It's top of the line. It's some of the best healthcare technology we can deliver to our patients in the Chippewa Valley.

The dual source CT scanner is still being put together. It'll be up and running by mid-June.
