The Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference is making some budget cuts, so schools in the conference won't have to.

The conference estimates it will save more than 250-thousand dollars by making several changes.

Those include moving games to later start times so teams won't have to stay overnight for early games, and limiting all postseason tournaments to only 6 teams instead of 8 teams.

The U-W Eau Claire athletic director says it's a proactive approach in light of budget cuts throughout the University of Wisconsin system.

Scott Kilgallon told us, "I think the biggest thing that I'm happy with is these decisions were made so that there's the least impact on our student-athletes and that's first and foremost the most important thing."

The cuts will also limit travel outside the region, which Kilgallon says will cut down on the classtime student-athletes miss.
