We all have our own ways of pinching pennies -- some of us go out to eat less or pass by the coffee shop – but we found one mom who’s number one savings plan is all about making life easier for other moms.

Amber Richards was so impressed with her daughter's reusable diapers -- she started up her own shop to teach other young mom's about cloth diapers.

When Evelyn was about 4 months old her disposable diapers were no fun. Amber says she was, “Having a lot of leaks, persistent diaper rashes and I was sick of paying for them -- it was getting very costly.”

So mom Amber hopped on the internet to share her problems and found everyone was pointing her to cloth diapers. She says, “I realized there are all different types of diapers that I didn't know about -- they Velcro, snap -- there's no pins or bleach or rubber pants involved.”

So she started converting friends -- and saving money -- and soon realized she wanted to share her discovery with even more people -- by starting a business. She says, “I decided to start Punkerdoops Diapers as a place that’s local, where you can come and see and touch the diapers.”

Plus she holds modern cloth diapering sessions twice monthly.

She says, “I just love to help people so I think it’s really fun to watch people -- maybe their expecting or they have a new baby -- I even have people convert with their 1-year-old or 1 and a half year old.”

And the biggest reason why they convert -- saving money. Amber says she's spent $350 total on her reusable diapers -- opposed to the nearly $2,000 she would have spent over the course of Evelyn's diaper wearing days.

She says, “Cloth diapering shouldn't feel like an inconvenience or a sacrifice -- just think of it as those are the diapers you use -- the only inconvenience is that your child isn't toilet trained.”

Amber says the different cloth diapers she sells range in price from about $2 to $18 per pair.

She’s also holding her next modern cloth diapering session next Tuesday, July 14th at 6 pm at her home on 1135 Jensen Road, Eau Claire.
