Deputies say a driver hydroplaned during the storms, and ended up in the water with her son inside. Buffalo County Sheriff's deputies say Christina Thompson of Pepin, was driving along state Highway 35 north of Nelson around 5 p.m.
Deputies say it was pouring rain and her car hydroplaned. It went over a guardrail, down a bank, and into some water. Deputies say the car was upright. She got out of her seat belt and out of the car, but couldn't get her 4-year-old son out.
Her husband Darrin, happened to be traveling in the opposite direction, and saw what happened. He went into the water and got the four year old out of the car seat.
Deputies say another passerby; Steven Anderson who is the chief of the Lund Fire Department gave the child CPR.
The child was flown to a hospital in Rochester, MN where a hospital spokesperson says he is in good condition.
