Most Commonly Stolen Cars in Wisconsin

The Wisconsin Insurance Alliance, which represents auto insurers in the state, released Tuesday its annual report on the most common types of car stolen in the state in 2002, the most recent year for which data is available.

The ten most commonly stolen in order of frequency of theft are:

1. Toyota Camry
2. Olds Cutlass/Supreme/Ciera
3. Buick LeSabre
4. Olds Delta 88/Royale
5. Honda Civic
6. Chev Caprice
7. Honda Accord
8. Chev Cavalier
9. Buick Century
10. Plymouth Voyager/Grand Voyager

The FBI reports that an estimated 13,000 vehicle thefts were reported in Wisconsin in 2002 compared to 1.2 million vehicle thefts nationwide in the same year.

The Wisconsin Insurance Alliance says the vehicles are stolen for export to other countries and for parts adding that there is a lucrative market in the state for parts.
