One winter sport getting a lot of people pumped for snowy hills, or at least snowy trails is cross country skiing.
We caught up with some skiers as they got ready to glide and every skier says they waited all season for some snow, at least to take to the trails at the Tower Ridge Recreation Area.

The snow shortage hasn't stopped skiers from getting out this year.

"We've been skiing at Mt. Washington because we make snow there," says Tim Anderson of Eau Claire.

But as any true skier will tell you, there's nothing like fresh powder.

"Coming out here on a day like this and just gliding through the woods, you can't beat it," Anderson says.

Whether it’s for sport…

"The exercise mainly," says Sam Erickson of Eau Claire.

…company…

"You get to meet lots of people," says 11-year-old Emily Anderson.

…or an instant pick-me-up from those winter blues:

"It was absolutely fabulous,” says Kathie Schaus of Chippewa Falls, “I just skied for almost three hours and I had so much fun!"

Finally, the trails are full of people who can't get enough of the flakes.

And, if you don't have any experience with cross country skis, don't worry. Every skier we talked to told us it's one of the easiest sports to pick up.
