Wisconsin Capitol Site of Same-Sex Marriage Demonstration

Activists on both sides of the gay marriage issue are at the state capitol Thursday. The state assembly is scheduled to vote on a constitutional amendment that would ban gay and same-sex marriages. But, it's unclear whether the representatives will actually take up the proposed amendment. Activists from both sides of the issue are inside and outside the capitol building trying to gain support for their cause.

State law defines marriage as a union between and husband and wife. The amendment would have to pass both houses of the legislature in successive sessions and then be approved by Wisconsin voters in a statewide referendum before it became law.
