News on Chronic Wasting Disease in Wisconsin

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources says surveys show the number of white-tailed dear in the area where chronic wasting disease has been found has dropped as much as 20 percent.

The eradication zone in parts of Sauk, Dane, and Iowa counties was expanded as new cases were discovered. The DNR says the population there's estimated at about 21,000 deer.

The DNR estimates the herd dropped about 10% in the eradication zone, with a 20 percent reduction in the core area where the fatal brain disease is most prevalent.
