The Pierce County sheriff say Lydecker died in a two-vehicle crash at Highway 10 and County Highway "E" in the town of Oak Grove just after 6:30 this morning.

The Pierce County Sheriff's Department says Lydecker failed to negotiate a stop sign properly and pulled into the path of an oncoming pickup truck driven by 56-year old Robert Bang of Ellsworth and was broadsided.

Bang was not injured. Lydecker was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officials say weather did not play a factor in the crash.

Lydecker had been chancellor at UW-River Falls since August of 2000.

Memorial services are scheduled for Monday afternoon in River Falls.
