Madison police put the price tag at $96,000 for their investigation of the Audrey Seiler case.
She's the University of Wisconsin-Madison sophomore who disappeared for four days and then was found in a marsh last week, saying she'd been abducted. Police later determined there was no abduction.
The latest figures show almost all of the investigative costs were from salary and overtime for police personnel. The total doesn't include other police agencies in the area that were involved in the investigation.
It remains to be determined whether Seiler or her family will have to pay any of the costs. The 20-year-old Seiler, who is from Rockford, Minnesota, has been receiving hospital treatment. Dane County District Attorney Brian Blanchard is reviewing the case but has not determined if any charges will be filed.
