Doyle Lobbies for Cheaper Drugs

(April 14, 2004) Eau Claire – Gov. Jim Doyle testified before the Drug Importation Task force in Bethesda, Maryland on Wednesday.

The task force is a group mandated by Congress to study the safety and feasibility of allowing prescription drugs into the United States. Doyle started up a state web site that helps residents buy Canadian drugs, which are often far cheaper than their American counterparts.

That move has been criticized by the federal government. Health and Human Services Secretary Tommy Thompson has said he hopes the task force will produce a report on the situation by July.
