It looks like a controversial wheel tax fell flat again this year.
Thursday night, Eau Claire City Council members debated budget items. One of those was a newly-named ten dollar fee.
Council member Andrew Werthmann spoke in support of a safe roads and savings initiative. He says the wheel tax would bring in $430,000 for the city, which Werthmann says would help fund more snow plowing in the city.
Council members who opposed it said it was not the right time. The proposal failed 8 to 2.
