It looks like Xcel Energy customers might be paying less for power than first thought.

Xcel now says it may not have to raise rates as much as projected earlier this year. The utility says several factors led to the decision, including lower generation costs and a potential refund from fuel and purchased power expenses.

Xcel now says it's not asking the public service commission for any increase in natural gas rates in 2010.

A hearing to talk about potential increases in electric rates is set for November 11th.
