Local Officials Champion New Law

Gov. Doyle signed Assembly Bill 709 into law last week.

Officials say it will help put together the pieces in identifying and helping at-risk students. It permits law enforcement agencies to release juvenile records to the school district if there's a belief that any state or federal crime has been committed.

Also, it means school boards can share student records with law enforcement, human services and other select agencies.

Local officials say the law only applies to certain matters for example medical information would not be shared.
