Three airlines have been fined a total of $175,000 for their role in the stranding of passengers on an airport tarmac in Minnesota this summer.
Flight 2816 was en route from Houston to Minneapolis on August 8th and was carrying 47 passengers when thunderstorms forced it to divert to Rochester. The airport closed and a Mesaba employee refused to open the terminal. The passengers were forced to sit almost 7 hours on the plane.
The Department of Transportation says it fined Continental Airlines and its regional airline partner ExpressJet along with Mesaba Airlines, which is a subsidiary of Delta Air Lines.
