The DNR was on Half Moon Lake Thursday to test out a treatment they hope will stop algae growth in the lake, and lakes across the state.
>
DNR Lakes Coordinator Buzz Sorge says the hydrated lime test attempts to control curly leaf pondweed which mixes phosphorus in the lake encouraging the growth of unwanted algae.
>
Sorge says it is in its experimental stages so the DNR is checking the water to make sure it isn’t harmful on fish.
>
If the treatment is successful, Sorge says it will be used across the state.
