A survey on a proposed tuition increase at UW-Eau Claire ended up with a mixed bag of responses.

The University of Wisconsin Eau Claire is looking at raising tuition by $1,500 over the next four years. Some students support the increase but others are asking to take a second look before a decision is made.

"Students will see smaller class sizes, easier registration and better high impact practices," says Student President Michael Umhoefer.

UW-Eau Claire Student Body President, Michael Umhoefer, says students were asked to fill out a survey online to see how they felt about the proposed additions to the university and how the university is doing currently.

"Asking students to increase their own tuition it's not surprising to 69% of them are not supporting it," says Umhoefer.

More than 3,600 students took the survey, and while the majority of them supported the plan they didn't want to give out the cash.

"I'm not a fan of it, I have never had a problem. If I needed my teacher’s attention I have never had a problem getting a hold of them," says Sophomore Joshua Jonas.

While some students don't want to foot the bill, others think it's worth it.

"I think if we want to become a supreme public university and actually have programs that put us ahead of other schools and make our resumes better, then we should have it," says Sophomore John Cousick.

Umhoefer says the student senate will vote on the Blugold Commitment on Monday night and he says the senate could make changes at that time.

If the proposal passes the senate on Monday, it will have to go the UW System Board of Regents for consideration.
