The Federal Government has stepped in and given a little more cash to cities abutting the Mississippi River National Wildlife Refuge.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service paid the cities about $53,000 to offset the loss of property tax revenue.

The areas that received money included La Crosse and Onalaska, as well as other surrounding towns.
