Hundreds of people hopped on board Saturday for Union Pacific's Operation Lifesaver Excursion.

The event started at 9:30 Saturday morning with the first train chugging along from Altoona to Chippewa Falls.

In the afternoon another train went from Altoona to Elk Mound.

Denny Mattson who's the manager of the event says Eau Claire Police Officers rode with the engineers to get a better understanding of how the public obeys train crossing signs.

Each train ride lasted just under two hours.
