The U.S. Senate has passed a spending bill totaling more than one trillion dollars and a lot of that money is flowing directly into western Wisconsin.
The bill cleared the senate by a vote of 57 to 35 Sunday. The legislation includes about $650 billion in mandatory payments for federal benefit programs, including Medicare and Medicaid.
U.S. Senator Herb Kohl included $750,000 for Health Care in Wisconsin. The funding includes $450,000 for I.T. improvements at the Chippewa Valley Free Clinic and Hospital and $300,000 for Viterbo University to build an up-to-date nursing facility.
Senator Kohl also says $8.8 million are being set aside for construction and upgrades at Fort McCoy. The bill now goes to President Obama who must sign it into law by Friday, or extend a temporary measure to keep the government running.
