An Eau Claire woman waits by the phone to hear the condition of her son-in-law.

He was on the bus that crashed in southern Bosnia.

Andy Meier, from Trinity Academy in Pewaukee, was one of three people who suffered more serious injuries among the 34 on the bus, 33 of those are from Wisconsin.

"Andy is a wonderful person and he is always an entertainer so it wouldn’t surprise me if he was at the front of the bus entertaining the group,” Riley said.

The group was on a tour and pilgrimage to a shrine in southern Bosnia when the bus veered to avoid a semi and plunged into a ravine outside Sarajevo.

Janeway Riley’s grandchildren were the only children on the bus and were accompanied by her daughter, Elizabeth and her husband, Andy.

"Andy is a wonderful, wonderful father and a wonderful husband,” Riley said. “We are all just hanging in there."

Riley says Andy is in critical condition with severe head trauma and a broken back.
