One day every year, we stop to honor, remember and thank our dads for all they have done for us.
>
But for one father and son in Eau Claire, work serves as an opportunity to share that special father-son bond and learn those valuable life lessons everyday.
>
Here's the story of a father and son who share the same profession, the same workplace and even the same name.
>
"These are often times complicated problems, and a team approach helps," said Dr. Charles R. Nordstrom.
>
At Luther Midelfort in Eau Claire, it's a team, in the form of father and son.
>
Doctor Charles R. Nordstrom is a veteran gastroenterologist at the hospital.
>
"I got here first, about 30 years ago," Nordstrom said.
>
His son, Charles, recently started a career at Luther Midelfort, practicing internal medicine.
>
Growing up, the younger Nordstrom says he always looked up to his dad.
>
"He always seemed happy and satisfied with his job. He came home very tired on many occasions," said Dr. Charles W. Nordstrom. "But I knew I wanted to do something with my life that mattered, just because I was always very proud of the fact that when he was gone during the day I knew he was doing important things."
>
That admiration and pride spawned into an intense interest in medicine.
>
The younger doctor says he was intimidated to follow in the footsteps of his father at Luther Midelfort.
>
But, he says that quickly changed.
>
"He is such a great guy," Nordstrom said. "I could see it was only expected I would be friendly and easy to work with as well."
>
Ask his father what it's like to work with his son, and he says it's a learning experience.
>
"He's recently trained, and I've been out of training for 30 years," the elder Dr. Nordstrom said. "He gives me a fair amount of information of things I haven't seen that much over the years."
>
And just like the pride his son had for his profession as a child, the elder Dr. Nordstrom now expresses that same pride for his son.
>
"He looks at it as something that's very enjoyable, very exciting and very challenging," Nordstrom said. "And that's probably what gives me the most satisfaction."
>
The newest Dr. Nordstrom says he hopes to take another page out of his father's book, once he has children of his own:
>
"I'll try to lead by example and show them what a rich and rewarding life it could be to be in medicine," he said. "And they can take away from that what they will."
