If you're plotting out a trip to the Rocky Arbor State Park, near the Dells, the gypsy moths have already beaten you there.

Hundreds of thousands of the gypsy moths have caused the DNR to close Rocky Arbor, just as the summer tourist season is here.

Park employees are now canceling reservations. The DNR says the park will stay closed until June 27th.

Forest Health Specialist wit the DNR Mark Guthmiller says, "I think this is the first shutting down of a park in Wisconsin and the severest damage we have seen in a state park."

The warm and dry conditions of late cause the moths, in caterpillar form, to infest and invade.

The DNR wants to stop the moths spreading, as they might from catching onto campers and cars heading elsewhere.

The park is offering alternative sites at Mirror Lake and Devil's Lake State Park.
