The family of the woman who died at Country Fest over the weekend wants changes made. 21-year-old Tara Grant died inside her tent from carbon monoxide poisoning on Saturday.
>
Tara’s parents and her sister want to make sure the same situation doesn't kill anyone else, and with more big festivals coming up soon, the family says something needs to change now.
>
The Grants want change for other families, and for Tara.
>
"She would have been so upset if she's heard about this. She would have demanded that something be done," says Tara’s mother Lisa.
>
Their request is simple - keep the tents away from RV's and campers. But so far they say Country Fest organizers aren't planning to change anything.
>
"When you have so many campers and RV’s and all these things parked so close together like they have down there, next to tents, it makes anyone in a tent vulnerable," Lisa says.
>
That set-up cost Tara her life on Saturday. In the middle of the night, the Grant's phone rang.
On the other end of the line, a Chippewa County sheriff's captain.
>
"He said we normally don't do this this way. We usually try to tell people in person, but he said that Tara didn't make it. He said that when she arrived at the hospital she was gone," Lisa says. "Then we went to the hospital and got to see her,” says Tara’s father Gordy.
>
After saying goodbye, Gordy and Lisa made the long drive to Madison to tell Tina.
>
"Tara was amazing. She was bright and funny. She had a good sense of humor. She was always there for me. We were very close. She was my best friend,” says Tina, Tara’s sister.
>
“We know that people lose loved ones every day. Every moment of every day. But if we can help somebody not lose their child again by this means, that's all we want to do," Lisa adds.
>
But so far, the Grants say they haven't heard anything from Country Fest organizers.
>
Tara's boyfriend, Jesse Jenson, was also in the tent Saturday night and was hospitalized for carbon monoxide poisoning. He says he had planned to spend the rest of his life with Tara.
>
The Chippewa County Sheriff’s Department says it believes carbon monoxide poisoning led to a death at the Country Fest grounds in Cadott early Sunday morning.
>
The department got a call around 12:45 Sunday morning of an unresponsive female in a campsite on the Fest grounds.
>
Deputies found 21-year-old Tara Grant from Spring Valley in a tent and not breathing. 24-year-old Jesse Jenson was also in the tent at the time and had high levels of carbon monoxide.
>
Deputies say CPR was started on-site, and paramedics later took Grant to the hospital.
>
The Chippewa Valley Coroner pronounced her dead at the hospital.
>
Investigators say a neighboring campsite had an exhaust hose from a generator stretched across the site and pointed at the tent.
