State regulators Thursday announced dozens of new violations and citations against the Lakeside Health and Rehabilitation Center in Chippewa Falls. As a result, the state has revoked its owners license to operate it. The facility will not close, but the department of Health and Family Services will begin to looking for a new operator for Lakeside. According to regulators, the nursing home is now facing 11 new state code violations and 23 federal health care citations. Surveys from May to June identified serious health concerns for residents like failure to be connected to an oxygen supply, failing to provide care to a diabetic resident who had gone into a coma, and failing to protect residents from sexual abuse from another resident. Officials say Lakeside continues to have deficiencies, and that state is stepping in. A spokesperson from Lakeside's owner, Extendicare, would not comment on the matter, but that they will appeal the decision. State officials will be at Lakeside next week to meet with residents and their families.
