Meal Program Cuts

A cut in federal funding may take meals off the menu for seniors in three Eau Claire County apartment complexes, but its supervisor claims people who rely on the Elderly Nutrition Program won't have to go hungry because of it.

Golden Acres Two Apartments in Altoona is scheduled to close their program on October 29, with Grace Barstow of Eau Claire to follow suit on November 30, and Luther Lakeside to end theirs December 31.

Officials say the complexes have plans to keep serving their tenants without using federal money.

The Empty Pockets Cafe in Fairchild will also stop serving meals through the program on weekends starting December 31.
