An area school board made some big decisions Monday night.

The Menomonie School Board decided it will not ask voters to approve a referendum. Instead, the board decided it will spend about $3 million for an addition to Wakanda Elementary School for more space. Last month we told you the district says its elementary schools are overcrowded, especially at Wakanda.

Superintendent Dan Woll says the money will be paid for under the revenue cap, and will use money the district was previously spending to pay off old debt. He says that means property taxes won't be going up in Menomonie.

Woll says the addition should be finished in time for the 2011- 2012 school year.
