Residents in Dane County flooded the police dispatch center in Madison early Monday morning reporting that their homes had been shaken. However, no callers reported any damage or injury.
The earthquake had measured a magnitude of 4.5 on the RIchter scale and was centered about 70 miles southwest of Chicago. The quake was felt as far west as the Quad Cities in and around Davenport, Iowa and Rock Island, Illinois, and felt also east of Valparaiso, Indiana and south to St. Louis, Missouri.
The rumble of the earthquake was described as brief.
